What is the meaning of Sun Belt?

From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary EnglishSunbelt, thethe SunbeltSun‧belt, the /ˈsʌnbelt/    the southern and southwestern parts of the US, from Virginia to South California. The name comes from the hot sunny climate in this area.

The southern and southwest United States.

(place) That part of the U.S. comprising most of the states of the South and the Southwest, characterized by a warm, sunny climate.

A political geographical region approximately the same as above, where the voting tendency of the population is right wing.

The southernmost states in America, known for consistently warm, sunny weather. Primarily heard in US. I always looked down on seniors who move to the sun belt after they retire, but now that I'm starting to get older, I find myself liking the sound of that more and more. I grew up in the sun belt, so seeing snow for the first time as a twenty-year-old was pretty remarkable.

The region of the United States comprising the southernmost states (and southernmost portion of California) along the US-Mexico border. The Sun Belt tends to attract large numbers of retirees due to its year-round warm weather. We get a lot of students moving up here from the Sun Belt who have never even seen snow before.
