A lot of new (and even old players) don't know how to get system maps. While you can get a map of a system by flying around and scanning (honking), you can also get the full system map by flying to the Nav Beacon for the system, which is usually near the main star you drop out at.Fly to the nav beacon, drop out of supercruise.Go to contacts and locate the actual beacon, target it. (It's a white target)Fly close to it, and point your ship at it, a spinning wheel will show up on your lower left panel as your ship scans it. No need to honk, it's automatic.Once the scan completes, you will have downloaded the complete system map.

Holy crap, even when I played on PC a couple of years ago, I didn't know this. This is an excellent tip. Thanx!

Good only if you don't have the approx. 1.5million credit advanced discovery scanner. Don't think you get any payment for scanning the beacon do you? Advanced discovery scanner will provide info on the entire system, but a surface scanner is required for more specific details regarding each celestial body, and provide

Good tip for anyone not able to afford the above scanners yet. Takes longer to find and scan the beacon than honking with the advanced discovery scanner.

If you see me coming, it's already too late.

True, but the beacon will also give you body names and often body info so Beacons are still usefull even with the best Discovery Scanner.

Good to know. That said, if you get the blue text saying X number of new objects found, and there are any earth like worlds or ammonia worlds, the manual surface scan should be used to get profit from them.
