Why is joy leaving the view

Still, Joy acknowledged she wasn’t all that disappointed to be leaving. "I didn’t like the way the show was going at that time," she admitted. "The way I heard it, and I don’t know what’s true because you never know, they got rid of a Republican so they wanted to get rid of a Democrat."

Joy revealed that she ultimately returned to the table in 2015 after a two-season hiatus because it allows her to do what she loves, which is talk politics. "They told me, 'It’s going to be smart,'" she shared of ABC’s comeback offer. Also... "'we’re going to pay you more money.'" You can’t beat that.

Whoopi Goldberg is taking an extended break from “The View,” her co-host Joy Behar announced Monday on the daytime talk show.

The comedian and actor was absent this week from “The View” panel as Behar explained to the audience the reason for her hiatus. Filling in for Goldberg on Monday was Alyssa Farah Griffin, political commentator and former White House director of strategic communications under the Trump administration.

“If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing,” Behar said. “So she’s gone for a while.”

According to Variety, Goldberg is away filming Amazon’s “Anansi Boys” in Scotland. Based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, the six-episode fantasy series stars Goldberg as a key villain: Bird Woman, the fearsome God of Birds who seeks revenge on Anansi, the trickster god of stories.

“I have been a fan of this book for a very long time, and when Neil Gaiman told me it was being brought to the screen, I did everything I could to be part of it to help make people aware of Anansi and all his magic,” Goldberg told Variety earlier this month.

Also among the main cast of the TV adaptation are Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Tiger), Emmanuel Ighodaro (Lion), Cecilia Noble (Elephant), Ayanna Witter-Johnson (Snake), Don Gilet (Monkey), Malachi Kirby (Charlie “Fat Charlie” Nancy and Spider) and Delroy Lindo (Mr. Nancy, a.k.a. Anansi).

“When I first conceived ‘Anansi Boys,’ decades ago, I imagined Whoopi Goldberg as Bird Woman,” Gaiman — billed as a writer, executive producer and co-showrunner on the series — told Variety.

“I wasn’t able to meet her until 2018 ... At which point she mentioned that she had just finished listening to Sir Lenny Henry’s reading of ‘Anansi Boys,’ and that it was one of her favourite books. Sometimes things feel planned and inevitable, and we are incredibly lucky. She’s going to be scary.”

Goldberg’s leave of absence from “The View” comes months after ABC News suspended the comic from the program for two weeks. In February, the network punished Goldberg for widely criticized comments she made about the Holocaust.

The entertainer promptly apologized for her remarks that month in a statement that read, “On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both.”

“As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the [Nazis’] systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected,” she continued.

“The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused. Written with my sincerest apologies, Whoopi Goldberg.”

The longest-serving member of the panel on “The View” isn’t going anywhere soon.

After rumours began to circulate that Joy Behar would be retiring from the show, the 79-year-old co-host shut that down definitively.

“Fake news,” Behar’s rep told the New York Post this week, revealing that, in fact, the host has signed another three-year deal with the network to remain on the show through 2025.

ABC confirmed to ET Canada that Behar isn’t going anywhere.

Behar had previously signed a three-year deal to stick with the show in 2019, with the rumours bubbling up as the end of the contract neared this year.

It had been reported that the co-host, the only original panellist remaining on the show, was being paid $7 million a year under the previous three-year deal.

Terms of the new deal are not known.

Currently, “The View” features four full-time co-hosts: Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines, with guest Ana Navarro making weekly appearances.

Behar had previously floated the idea of retiring from the show in 2022 when her contract was up, saying as much to author Ramin Setoodeh in his book Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View’ in 2020.

“I have a three-year contract,” Behar said in the book. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t leave if I want to, because they can’t really do anything to me at this point. I don’t see myself staying for more [time]. That’s it! I could be wrong. If I’m as fabulous in [2022] as I am now, I’ll think about. But the chances of that happening… You know, time marches on. I’m not a kid.”

She’s not seeking a new view.

Joy Behar’s rep has shut down rumors that the star is set to quit “The View” ahead of her 80th birthday in October.

Rumors circulated that Behar’s three-year contract with ABC expires this summer, with the Independent Journal Review reporting that the veteran panelist could be gearing up to announce her retirement “any day now.”

Joy Behar’s three-year contract with ABC was rumored to expire this summer, ahead of her milestone 80th birthday in October.

“Fake news,” her rep told The Post Tuesday, revealing that Behar has signed another three-year deal with ABC.

The new contract will keep her tied to the network until 2025.

It’s unclear how much money ABC forked over for Behar, although it’s likely that it’s paying the controversial comedian a handsome, eight-figure sum.

Behar — who is the only original panelist remaining at “The View” — was purportedly paid $7 million per year as part of her previous three-year deal with the network.

The high-powered star could now command even more, given that ABC is still struggling to fill Meghan McCain’s spot on “The View,” almost a year after the conservative commentator quit the show.

At present, there are just four full-time co-hosts of “The View,” with Behar appearing alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines. Ana Navarro appears one day a week.

Behar moderates the show every Friday and also filled in when Goldberg was spectacularly suspended from the show for two weeks in February for saying the Holocaust wasn’t about race.

Rumors that Behar was set to leave “The View” have been perpetuated by the star.

The funnywoman told reporter Ramin Setoodeh in 2020 that it was unlikely she would sign a new contract with ABC in 2022.

“I have a three-year contract,” Behar told Setoodeh in his best-selling book about “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View.’ “

“I don’t see myself staying for more [time]. That’s it! I could be wrong. If I’m as fabulous in [2022] as I am now, I’ll think about,” she added. “But the chances of that happening … You know, time marches on. I’m not a kid.”

Behar is one of the original “The View” panelists alongside Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and Barbara Walters. The show premiered in 1997.

Behar stayed on the program for 16 years before she was let go in 2013. She returned to the panel in 2015, and has spent the past seven years at the center of the show’s “Hot Topics” table.

The avowed liberal often declares her disdain for former President Donald Trump and frequently hit headlines for clashing with former co-host McCain.

However, Behar has continued to stay in the spotlight even without her conservative sparring partner.

Behar — an avowed liberal — frequently clashed with conservative commentator McCain. Producers have been unable to find a fit to fill McCain’s empty seat almost a year after her departure.

Earlier this year, she infamously face-planted while walking on set to take her seat at the show’s table.

She also garnered criticism when she was pictured maskless inside a swanky New York City restaurant just days after telling audiences she would be wearing a face covering in public spaces “indefinitely.”
