Why does the subwoofer keep cutting out?

Previous Next Sort by votes

Today my subwoofer started randomly cutting in and out every few seconds, then coming back after a second again. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the signal its receiving, it just keeps doing it no matter how loud or quiet the signal is. The sub is a "Power Dynamics GALAX10S". My computer is connected to a Scarlett 2i2 IO, which outputs L/R to the subwoofer, which again sends the audio out to two monitors on my desk. The monitors, although connected through the subwoofer, do not cut out when the sub does. They keep playing normally. The only issue I've had with this setup is that the Scarlett sometimes only sends audio to the right channel, but this is easily fixed by slightly adjusting the volume knob (any tips on this are greatly appreciated as well). The sub cutting out doesn't seem to have anything to do with that. Thanks for any help!

EDIT: It DOES seem to have something to do with the signal it's receiving. I just played a song with barely any bass just fine for ~30 seconds, but when the bass came in it started cutting out again.

Why does the subwoofer keep cutting out?

I would have to say the internal amp on the sub is going bad, first thought was thermal shutdown but that wouldn't make since if it hit 1 second then turned off and then back on a second later.

You might be able to take it to a repair shop and have them look at it, or just replace the hole thing.

Yeah, it does sound like it. I'm gonna contact the store I bought it from, thanks.
