  • Miller was placed on the 10-day injured list with a neck strain Thursday, retroactive to July 18.

Miller was out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Miami, and his absence was apparently due to a neck issue that will keep him sidelined for at least a week and a half. He'll be eligible to return as early as July 28, but it's not yet clear when the Rangers expect to have him back in action. Ezequiel Duran was called up to provide additional infield depth, while Elier Hernandez should see an uptick in playing time during Miller's absence.

  • Culberson was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's game in Miami.

He had been scheduled to pick up a start in the middle infield while Corey Seager received a breather following his appearance in Los Angeles for the All-Star Game on Tuesday. Culberson's removal from the lineup isn't believed to be the result of any injury; instead, the Rangers are likely just eager to get a look at rookie Ezequiel Duran, who was called up from Triple-A Round Rock after Brad Miller (neck) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Duran will start at second bae and bat ninth while Marcus Semien mans shortstop.

  • Dunning (ankle) is in line to return from the 15-day injured list to start the Rangers' game in Seattle on Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Dunning was placed on the IL on July 11 with a right ankle impingement, but he'll end up spending the minimum amount of time on the shelf due to the injury. The right-hander is scheduled to make a rehab start Thursday for the Rangers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, and assuming he comes out of that outing unscathed, Dunning shouldn't face any major workload restrictions in his return to the Texas rotation next week. Before being shut down prior to the All-Star break, Dunning went 1-6 with a 4.42 ERA and 84:37 K:BB in 95.2 innings over his 18 starts.

  • Hearn is scheduled to make a start or work as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen in Saturday's game in Oakland, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

The southpaw is getting a second straight turn through the rotation after he worked four innings and struck out seven while allowing four runs (two earned) in his return from Triple-A Round Rock on July 15 versus the Mariners. Hearn could be headed back to Round Rock or to the bullpen after Saturday's outing, as the Rangers plan to add Dane Dunning (ankle) back from the 15-day injured list and into the rotation next week in Seattle.
