FOX hit series “The Resident” is created by Amy Holden Jones alongside Hayley Schore and Roshan Sethi. The medical drama is based on a fictional tale ‘Unaccountable’ composed by Surgeon Marty Makary.

The series centers on a group of physicians at Chastain Memorial Hospital, as they encounter personal and professional obstacles regularly. To tackle these issues, they have to maintain absolute discipline and a calm personality since they’re dealing with patients. Conrad in particular, who is a senior and later chief resident at the hospital, tries extremely hard to do what’s best in a constantly depressing healthcare system. Their motto is “Committed to excellence.” The show also stars actors Bruce Greenwood, Matt Czuchry, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Morris Chestnut, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Emily VanCamp.

We also know that two of the original cast members have departed from the show which also came as a surprise to many fans.

It was confirmed that Shaunette Renée Wilson, an original cast member of The Resident who played Mina Okafor was the first to leave the show. She was last seen on season 4 and has no plans of returning to the show in the future as she has decided to return to her native place Nigeria.

Another sad news is that The Resident’s fifth season will be without its female lead, Emily VanCamp who played Nicolette “Nic” Nevin also confirmed to have departed from the show due to multiple reasons although no details or specific reasons were mentioned. Although there’s a chance that in the future, we’ll get to see her as a guest star.

As for Morris Chestnut, he still hasn’t left the show but says he “isn’t sure” and is undecided at the moment. Morris Chestnut who played Barrett Cain said that his future in the show is uncertain as he is preparing to premiere his new series “Our Kind of People.” He will be seen in The Resident fifth season 5. According to rumors, the fifth season will be his last. We hope not!

The Resident has five seasons in total with season 5 began airing on September 21, 2021, to May 17, 2022, consisting of  23 episodes. The series first premiered on January 21, 2018, and ended on May 14, 2018. The second season was aired from September 24, 2018, to May 6, 2019, the third season was aired from September 24, 2019, to April 7, 2020, and the fourth was released on January 12, 2021, and completed on May 18, 2021, and altogether the show has released 71 episodes.

If you look at the timeline, the series has been released every season on time without any further delays even though many shows were badly affected because of the ongoing pandemic. We’re grateful that the showrunners worked extra hard to deliver each season as scheduled and most importantly the viewers don’t have to wait for long for their favorite show to arrive on the screens.

As per speculation, the new season will likely arrive on September 20, 2022, but FOX is yet to confirm this.

Currently, there is not much information when it comes to season 6 of The Resident but we hope to hear an announcement soon either from FOX or the showrunners.

In the meantime, you can watch the previous seasons of The Resident which are available now on Prime Video and Hulu.
