When did the first spongebob episode come out

Two episodes of the animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants” have been removed from the Nickelodeon cable network — one because of sensitivity related to the pandemic and another for not being “kid-appropriate,” the network said on Tuesday.

The cartoon, which debuted in 1999 on Nickelodeon, follows the underwater misadventures of a talking yellow sea sponge named SpongeBob, who works at a fast-food restaurant, and his starfish buddy Patrick and other aquatic friends.

One episode, titled “Kwarantined Crab,” centers on a virus story line, David Bittler, a spokesman for Nickelodeon, said on Tuesday. The episode features a health inspector who visits the fast-food restaurant where the main character works and finds a case of the “clam flu.”

The episode “was never put on the schedule to be sensitive to the pandemic outbreak last year,” Mr. Bittler said on Tuesday.

Another episode, “Mid-Life Crustacean,” was removed from rotation on the network in 2018 “following a standards review in which we determined some story elements were not kid-appropriate,” Mr. Bittler said.

That episode followed another character, Mr. Krabs, the owner of the fast-food place, who is feeling old and asks SpongeBob and Patrick if he can join them on a wild night out, according to IMDb.com. The trio breaks into a woman’s house and takes her underwear. CNN reported on the removal of the episodes on Tuesday. The “Mid-Life Crustacean” episode is also no longer on Amazon.

News of the episodes’ removal came at a time when other streaming platforms and publishers have sought to give audiences context for older films, television shows and books that carry offensive content.

Last week, a children’s graphic novel by the creator of the popular “Captain Underpants” series was pulled from circulation by its publisher, Scholastic, which said that the book featured images and tropes — including Asian stereotypes — that perpetuate “passive racism.”

Earlier this month, after WWE wrestling episodes began moving to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, racist moments were removed from old episodes. One episode from 1990 presented a showdown between Roddy Piper, a white wrestler, and Bad News Brown, a Black wrestler. Mr. Piper appeared at the match with half his face painted black.

Also this month, the estate of Dr. Seuss announced that six of his books would no longer be published because they contained depictions of groups that were “hurtful and wrong.”

“I’m ready!”

These two words are what I live by. Though not a perfect character SpongeBob has characteristics I always tried to emulate. His perseverance and ability to keep moving forward and coming out on top at the end of an episode is inspirational to me.

The first “SpongeBob SquarePants” episode premiered on May 1, 1999. This means the show turned 23 this year, and that also means I’m 20 days older than Spongebob.

Ever since the first episode, SpongeBob has been a cultural force and maybe the greatest cartoon ever.

SpongeBob was created by Stephen Hillenburg, a former California State University student graduate from Cal Poly Humboldt (formerly known as Humboldt State University). Hillenburg became a marine-biology teacher at The Ocean Institute in Dana Point, California, after graduating.

One day he was asked to create an educational comic book for the institution, and there, despite using a completely different design, he made Bob the Sponge, the first idea of the character many of us have grown to know and love.

After some years of working as a teacher, Hillenberg decided to switch from teaching to becoming an art student, enrolling in the master’s program at the California Institute of Arts.

Following his time at school, Hillenberg got a job as a director on the legendary show “Rocko’s Modern Life.”

When the show ended, Hillenburg decided to make his own cartoon, and from there, our beloved fry cook who lives in a pineapple under the sea really began to come into fruition.

Hillenburg’s idea for SpongeBob was an under the sea version of Jerry Lewis, a nerd the shape of a sink sponge.

Hillenburg created a pitch bible with future Creative Director Derek Draymond and Art Director Nick Jennings.

One legendary pitch later, he got some money from Nickelodeon and two weeks to write the pilot. Eventually, he got the green light for 13 episodes, and the rest is history.

Aside from making the childhood of countless kids, the show’s most significant impact has been on meme culture. Open up any social media app and I guarantee you will see at least one SpongeBob meme if you stay on that app long enough. Or you can google “SpongeBob meme” and be completely overwhelmed by the plethora of memes.

Seasons 1-3 are the best. My mom told me that I couldn’t stop watching it as a kid. This is true to this day, especially after extracurricular activities.

Now, SpongeBob has become a show I watch for inspiration. It helps me relax my mind because I never get sick of it, even having seen the same episodes a couple hundred times. It’s funny, the characters are memorable and the story of each episode, when written well, probably makes for the best writing in cartoon history.

Trust me, it has plenty of exceptionally written episodes. Yes, there have been rough times in the show’s history, but that hasn’t slowed down SpongeBob and his friends’ adventures and shenanigans. They have created three movies which made them millions and have had many comeback seasons.

These last couple of years have been pretty rough, but when I put the show on, it brings me back to a time in life when I felt like I didn’t have any problems.

And for the character himself, voiced by Tom Kenny, his bright, happy personality inspires us to stay positive. It inspired me as a kid and even now, as an adult.

Sadly, the creator, Stephen Hillenburg, died at 57 years old from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, on Nov. 26, 2018.

SpongeBob still lives on. The show is still airing with new episodes, but even if it ended today,  Hillenburg’s creation would continue to impact future generations, probably forever.

I've only just started getting into cartoons again after not watching them for so long. I heard about Spongebob Squarepants and decided to check it out. Now I watch every episode religiously! It's amazing! I don't think I ever seen anything as surreal or as funny in a kids show as this! The show takes place in Bikini Bottom, an underwater town. Spongebob Squarepants (voiced by the amazingly talented Ton Kenny) is a sponge that works as a fry cook at the Crusty Krab, run by one Mr Krabs (voiced by Tom Clancy who many people will remember from Shawshank Redemption). Spongebob is a kid at heart and a little stupid, but gets up to the most amazing adventures. Alongside Spongebob are his best friend Patrick Starfish (Bill Fagerbakke) who is even more stupid than Spongebob, Sandy Cheeks (Carolyn Lawrence) a squirrel that lives underwater for some reason, Squidward Tentacles (Rodger Bumpass) Spongebobs moody next door neighbour, Mrs Puff (Mary Jo Catlett) Spongebob's driving instructor and Plankton (Mr Lawrence) a very tiny sea animal with a Napoleon Complex. What makes the show so funny is the situations that Spongebob and his friend Patrick get themselves into. They are both very stupid and child like, meaning that they get into trouble on a regular basis, which makes for exciting episodes. There are some huge laugh out loud moments and some of them stuff that they get up to will make your stomach churn with laughter. All the characters are amazingly put together and they all work. Each have their own personality which allows them to carry on the story and let Spongebob interact with them all.One of the funniest stories is the send up of Batman and Robin where Spongebob and Patrick try to bring out of retirement their two favourite heroes. Mermaid Man (Ernist Borgnine) and Barnacle Boy (Tim Conway). Anyone who's ever watched the classic Adam West Batman will appreciate the humour of this episode! All in all, a very funny cartoon. It's insane enough for kids to enjoy, but also so funny that many adults will enjoy it (as long as they get the humour). Take it for what it is. Don't' try and analyse it. Just watch and enjoy.Oh and one more thing. In one episode, the background music is provide by metals most greatest heroes, PANTERA!!!!!!!!

10/10!!!!!
