Minecraft Forge allows you to install mods into your Minecraft game. With a little set-up and a quick download, you can be on your way to playing with mods in no time.

  1. 1

Go to the Minecraft Forge web site (www.minecraftforge.net)

  2. 2

Select the version you want from the drop-down depending on your mods (some mods may not be compatible with some versions). Recommended are 1.7.10 and 1.6.4.

    • You must have already run Minecraft once with the target version (loading world is not necessary). If you haven't already, do it now.

  3. 3

Choose the "Universal" icon from the "Recommended" tab and click it.

  4. 4

Run the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. 5

In the launcher, in Profiles drop-down, select the profile "Forge" and in Versions select "Forge1.x.x-x.x.x.x"— the "x" will depend on which version you have installed. Click Play.

  6. 6

Wait through the forge loading process(hammer and anvil below MOJANG logo)

  7. 7

Quit at the Minecraft main menu (Singleplayer, Multiplayer etc.)

  8. 8

    Close the launcher.

  1. 1

Always get mods from trusted sources like minecraftforum and Planet Minecraft: sites like minecraft—forum and Xminecraft etc (where X is any number, like 7minecraft, 9minecraft) are unsafe.

  2. 2

Download the mod and save it anywhere you like.

  3. 3

Access your /mods/ folder and put your mod in it.

    • In Windows XP, Vista or 7, Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run and type "%AppData%" without quotes. There should be a folder named ".minecraft" (with full stop at the start). Open it. Find and open the folder called "mods". This should be empty. Move your mod file into it.
    • In Windows 8, Search for "Run" and do the same as above
    • In Windows 8.1 and 10, right-click the Start button, click Run and do the same as above.

  4. 4

    Close all the windows.

  5. 5

Run Minecraft with Forge. The loading process will take considerably longer: This is normal.

  6. 6

At the main menu, click Mods. Your mod should be listed in the list: If it isn't check that you've done everything correctly. If you have then check the Minecraft Forum thread/website for any special installation instructions or problems. Try using a different version of the mod.

  7. 7

If it is, then go back to the main menu and click Singleplayer.

  8. 8

Click "Create New World" and create it however you want.

  9. 9

If it crashes when loading or freezes then start from the Mods menu. Check if there is any bug or conflict (only when 2 or more mods). If there is a bug then report it. If there is a conflict, move to the next section of this guide..

  10. 10

    Play and enjoy!

  1. 1

Realize that if you have 2 or more mods they might conflict. This means one is trying to use data that is also used by the other.

  2. 2

Recognize when you have a conflict.

    • If MC crashes, then find the report by accessing your /mods/ folder again. This time, go to the folder called "crash-reports" and find the .txt file. If it contains something like "Mod is trying to use XXX but it is used by Another Mod" then you have a conflict.
    • If MC does not crash, but during gameplay, you find a strange out-of place block (like Iron Bars in the middle of the underground with nothing around), then probably you have a conflict.

  3. 3

Solve the conflict. To solve, either you can use a tool like "MCPatcher," in which case you can refer to the instructions given or you can fiddle around with configs manually:

    • Access your /mods/ folder again. This time, go into the folder "configs" and find the files for your conflicting mods.
    • There will normally be a section with block/item names and some numbers; if there isn't ask for help.
    • Find two numbers which are exactly the same. If there aren't any then you don't have a conflict.
    • Change one of the numbers so that it does not conflict with anything and save.
    • It is solved! Yippee!

  • When I load Forge 1.12 without mods it seems to work just fine but when I add a mod it crashes before it can start loading. What should I do?

Restart your computer and then reinstall the mod and make sure it is the latest version.

  • What about liteloader mods and also jar mods?

You can use them, but only in offline safe mode.

  • I moved the mod to the mods folder and it was not in the downloads folder anymore. Is this the reason why it's not showing up in my mods in-game?

You put the folder in Minecraft and restart the game with task manager. Then play offline.

  • How do I get into the mods folder?

Put the mods on your desktop, and drag them to the folder labeled mods. If there is not a folder named mods, then create a new folder.

There was a sad time when mods weren't available for Minecraft PE, but now mods are officially supported! Installing them on Minecraft PE is really simple. You just need to download the right app, find the mods you want to add, and install them. That’s all! This article will walk you through how to do it step-by-step.

  1. 1

Download a trusted Minecraft Mod App. There are two main free apps that are available for both iPhone and iPad as well as Android phones and tablets. Use the following steps to download either Addons for Minecraft or Terra - Mods for Minecraft:

    • Open the App Store on iPhone and iPad, or the Google Play Store on Android.
    • Tap the Search tab.
    • Tap the search bar at the top of the screen.
    • Type mcpe addons or terra mods into the search bar.
    • Tap Search
    • Tap GET or Install next to "Addons for Minecraft" for a large selection of PE addons
    • Tap GET or Install next to "Terra - Mods for Minecraft" for a small selection of PC mods, converted to PE addons
    • Enter your password or Touch ID when prompted.

  2. 2

Open The App. The Addons for Minecraft app has an icon that resembles a half-human/half-monster face. The Terra - Mods for Minecraft app has an icon that resembles a golden T. Tap the icon of your choice on your home screen or apps menu to open the app. You can also tap Open in the Google Play Store or App Store once it is finished downloading and installing.

  3. 3

Search for a mod. Scroll down through the home page to browse categories, or on the Addons for Minecraft app tap the Search tab at the bottom of the screen. It has an icon that resembles a magnifying glass. Use the search bar to look up a mod by name or description.

  4. 4

Select your preferred mod. Once you find a mod that you want to download, tap it to open its page.

    • If you see an advertisement pop-up, tap the icon that resembles an "x" to close the pop-up ad.
    • On Android Addons for Minecraft has less ads, so using it on Android is preferred
    • On iOS Terra - Mods for Minecraft has a bigger selection, so using it on iOS is preferred

  5. 5

Tap the DOWNLOAD button. It's an orange or green button below the mod's preview photo. Doing so will launch an advertisement page on Addons for Minecraft.

    • If there's more than one DOWNLOAD button, the mod requires multiple downloads, meaning that you'll need to repeat the installation process for the second (and subsequent) button(s) after the first download concludes.

  6. 6

Tap the INSTALL button. On Terra - Mods for Minecraft PE this button will still say download, but these buttons still install the mods.

    • On Addons for Minecraft it's a purple button in the same place as was the orange DOWNLOAD button.
    • For both apps a pop-up menu will appear at the bottom of the screen (iOS).
    • If the file has multiple INSTALL buttons, you'll need to come back to this app after the first file installs and repeat this process. Usually there involves one resource pack and one behavior pack.

  7. 7

Tap Copy to Minecraft on iPhone or the Minecraft app on Android. It's the Minecraft app icon found in the pop-up menu. This will open both the Minecraft app and the mod inside of Minecraft.

    • On iPhone and iPad, you may have to scroll right (swipe left) over the top row of options in the pop-up menu to see Minecraft's app icon.
    • If you don't see Minecraft in the menu, scroll all the way to the right, tap More, and tap the white switch to the right of Minecraft.
    • On most Android devices, the mod should automatically install without a pop-up.

  8. 8

Wait for the mod to install. When you see "Import Completed" or "Import Successful" at the top of the screen, you may proceed.

    • If you had multiple INSTALL buttons, double-press the Home button, select the MCPE Addons option, tap the next INSTALL button, and repeat the installation process.

  9. 9

Create a new world with the Mod activated. Once you've installed the mod, you can open it in a new world by doing the following:

    • Tap Play
    • Tap Create New
    • Tap Create New World
    • Scroll down to the Resource Packs or Behavior Packs section in the panel to the left.
    • Select Resource Packs or Behavior Packs
    • Select a mod
    • Tap Activate below the texture pack.
    • Tap Create in the panel to the left.

  10. 10

Make sure to turn on Experimental Settings! Mods that use behavior packs often need experimental settings turned on to work.

    • Tap Game under Edit Settings
    • Scroll down to Experiments
    • Turn on Holiday Creator Features
    • Turn on Creation of Custom Biomes
    • Turn on Additional Modding Capabilities
    • Turn on Enable GameTest Framework
    • Reload your world and enjoy your mod!

  • Can you install mods on an iPad touch?

Yes, if your device is jailbroken.

  • How can I turn off the safe mode?

You go into Launcher Options, scroll down until you see safe mode, then flip it off.

  • Does the ultimate unicorn mod work for PE?

Is there is a PE version of the mod available, then yes, it will work. PC mods do not work on Minecraft PE.

  • How do I use blocklauncher on servers?

You cannot use blocklauncher on servers. If you enabled a mod and then joined a server, that mod will be disabled.

  • How do I play on the local server?

You have to be connected to the internet that the host has. You also have to know his username and connect to him on Minecraft PE.

  • What should I do if the Mod causes lag?

Try to refresh Minecraft. Or delete the Mod, close Minecraft, then reinstall the Mod.

  • What do I do if the block launcher is not working?

Completely close the game, then reopen it. If that does not work, then go to settings and clear the data and reinstall the mods.

  • Yes. As long as you downloaded the mods in the app store, just open them in settings.

  • I have some apps and my blocklauncher is not working because it says that in order to work it needs Minecraft 12.1 but I have 13.1. What should I do?

Maybe you need to renew the apps on your blocklauncher, or maybe it is lagged to work. Check your Wi-Fi first and see if everything is okay.

  • Can I play with friends that are using a different internet connection?
